Vaccines against the seasonal flu are widely available in Ottawa and Allegan counties both through private suppliers like well as now through county contracts with Visiting Nurse Associations of America.

Allegan County’s clinic dates and times for the H1N1 (sometimes called swine flu) vaccine are not yet set according Jackie Skelton the registered nurse who coordinates the county’s flu clinics. She said H1N1 vaccines will likely be available to the public in the first or second week of November.

Ottawa County Health Department spokeswoman Shannon Felgner said Ottawa County may have the H1N1 vaccine ready for the public earlier perhaps before the end of this month.

In addition to the county programs many other vaccination locations are being offered by private agencies and organizations including hospitals churches and businesses. Check Web sites under for more options.

A Holland Hospital clinic Tuesday afternoon ran out of pediatric vaccines. Hospital spokesman Tim Breed said the hospital has a good supply of the grown-up supply of the vaccine except has dispensed all the pediatric doses ordered at the start of the season.

“It’s not plain at this point whether we will be receiving more of the pediatric vaccine” he said.
